WRHU Students Cover the Presidential Inauguration

Student journalists from award-winning campus station WRHU Radio Hofstra University 88.7 FM at the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication will report live from the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 in Washington, D.C.
Four students will attend the event as members of the credentialed media, working alongside professional journalists from broadcast, print and digital outlets from across the country including NBC, CNN, FOX News, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsday, and WCBS NewsRadio 880 AM.
“Our students get excellent opportunities to cover the biggest news stories of the day,” said WRHU Operations Manager John Mullen, who will be accompanying the students to the nation’s capital. “They are building strong careers before they even graduate, and using their skills to tell powerful, important stories.”
The WRHU team will be on Talk Media News Radio Row on Thursday, Jan. 19, where they will interview politicians and other newsmakers and send back reports that will air on both 88.7 FM and wrhu.org.
Inauguration coverage will air beginning Thursday from 5:30-6 p.m. during “Newsline,” the station’s evening newscast. It will continue on Friday during “Morning Wake-Up Call” (7-9 a.m.), a special broadcast from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and again on “Newsline.” On Saturday, the students will file on-air reports throughout the day as news breaks.

WRHU also sent student reporters to the Republican and Democratic national conventions as well as the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, hosted by Hofstra University, during the 2016 election cycle.
Also in town for inauguration events are five students who have been participating in the prestigious Washington Center Seminar, a two-week program examining the 2016 presidential race.
